Roundtable on Art and Technology in Public Computer Centers at MCA

Today I hosted a meetup of Connect Chicago will be held as a part of an exhibit at the Museum of Contemporary Art. It will be held at a conference room table in the middle of an art installation called The Nature of the Beast by Goshka Macuga at the Museum of Contemporary Art. The artist “designed the exhibition space with a real emphasis on accommodating and encouraging meetings for discussion groups”.

Appointment to the Cook County New Media Council

Today I was appointed as co-chair of the Cook County New Media Council. Snip:

“Cook County engages residents daily in deep and meaningful ways — from hospitals and jails to marriage licenses and pet vaccinations. The Cook County New Media Council is devoted to improving technology in government, and I look forward to being a part of making those moments more mobile,” said Dan X. O’Neil, Executive Director of the Smart Chicago Collaborative and a co-chair of the council.

Creating a responsive web design, which is still a fairly new concept, will put Cook County ahead of the curve of other governments. The County plans to move to a mobile first platform and is weighing using text messages as a way to deliver custom content and/or links.
